Hal returns from his ordeal in space to find Coast City destroyed. With everything he cared about gone, Green Lantern faces the culprits responsible - the sinister Cyborg Superman and the immensely powerful Mongul. Reign of the Supermen concludes in Adventures of Superman #505 This issue is reprinted partially (pages 1-17) in the 1993 Superman: The Return of Superman and in its entirety in the 2016 The Return of Superman. This issue is a "Reign of the Supermen!" crossover. The events from this issue take place concurrently with events from Superman (Volume 2) #82. The destruction of Coast City took place in Superman (Volume 2) #80. The events from this issue set the stage for the 1993-94 story-arc, "Emerald Twilight". At the time of publication, Green Lantern #46 was an unsolicited "Reign of the Supermen!" tie-in issue. As such, it quickly sold out at retail outlets and became one of the more highly sought re-order issues of 1993.
